Which DSLR camera is better for me?

I currently just have a point and shoot camera, but I take pictures of people, animals, and nature. I'm just starting to be serious about having photography as a hobby, but I think it's really interesting. I want to find a camera that's good for a beginner, and that is good for all the aforementioned things. Which camera would be better for me, canon EOS rebel XS, nikon d40, nikon d3000, sony a290, or sony a330?
