Can i be sued for breach of contract if no contract was signed?

A friend was going through a divorce. She fabricated stories and lies to the courts and police officers to get even with her husband bcz he did not want to be with her anymore. Well she needed to move out her home bcz she felt scarred her would come back and try to retaliate. My fiance and I told her that we would move into her home. She offered a rental agreement of 1000.00 per month or a rent to own contract of 1000.00 towards rent and 300 towards down payment of the condo. She needed us to immeadiatly move in BCZ again she was freightened and she was going to purchase a bigger home... But that deal fell through.. So she rented a home for 1300.00 a month. So she never gave us a contract. I had to ask her for it. A whole month had gone by. I told her we need the contracts so we can have my fiances mother which is the head of real estate for the port of oakland to look it over.. She procrastinated even more. She finally gave us ONE contract and it was just for the lease to own option.. She all of a sudden changed everything! She said she had to rent a home for 1300 so she needs 1300.00 now. But I told her that I did not want to purchase the condo BCZ on the contract she offered 195,000.00 and it was only worth 115,000.00 !! She then she said. Well i need 1300.00 if you rent or buy it ..So thats when we decided to move! we never signed a contract! So now I get a letter saying that she is suing me for 4000.00 !!!
